Images of life in the Zen neighborhood of Palermo

The ZEN is one of the last large public housing neighborhoods built in Palermo. It is marked by significant social distress, marginalization, and Mafia infiltration, and has one of the highest school dropout rates in Italy. One third of the families live in poverty. This report on the neighborhood’s issues dates back to the early 1990s.
