He has developed a direct, black-and-white style that strives for formal simplicity, placing people and their stories at the core of his images. He collaborates with associations, independent magazines, and editorial projects dedicated to social themes.

Federico became interested in photography at a very young age. At only 20, he moved to New York City, where he worked as an assistant to the renowned photographer Marco Glaviano, gaining the opportunity to immerse himself in the world of fashion photography during one of its most creative eras.

After returning to Italy, Federico produced an important photo report for the United Nations on the occasion of the International Year of Disabled Persons, documenting the conditions of people with disabilities. Following a brief period in Milan, he decided to settle permanently in Rome, where he opened his own photography studio.

In the following years, he specialized in industrial photography, still life, and portraiture, collaborating with major clients such as L’Espresso, ENI, EFIM, ENEA, Toyota Italia, Peruzzo Editore, CONFARTIGIANATO, and the Accademia Costume & Moda. At the same time, Federico continued to carry out photo reports both in Italy and abroad.

In the early 1990s, Durante steered his career toward photojournalism, focusing on stories that capture humanity and its ways of living rather than current events. Represented by the Grazia Neri Photo Agency in Milan, he produced reportages in Africa, Southeast Asia, Italy, and across Europe.

For AMREF, Federico accompanied comedian Giobbe Covatta on several trips to Kenya, Sudan, and Tanzania. He was also commissioned by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to document various projects in Cape Verde and Ethiopia.

In Southeast Asia, Federico settled in Bangkok to carry out photographic work in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Among his most significant works is the traveling exhibition The Hard Face of Work, created in collaboration with CGIL Lombardia and ANMIL.
